Limestone walls can be used to retain your land, as a garden bed or as a feature wall. They can be either reconstituted or natural. Reconstituted retaining walls Perth have a higher density than natural blocks and so are stronger and easier to lay due to their uniform sizing.
When laying a wall in a backyard for general garden beds, any size of block can be used if it’s under 500mm high. When in the Perth metro area, any walls over 500mm high require council approval, which requires an engineer drawing to ensure they are built to last the test of time.
Generally, there are two types of retaining walls Perth: one is done in an area that is naturally clay or in an area that is naturally sand. In the clay area’s an extra deep footing is required, drainage (to prohibit any water from pooling behind the wall) and expansion joints to cope with the natural movement of the clay underneath.
When considering limestone as an option for your retaining needs, it has a few advantages over brick or panel and post type walls. Limestone can look better and now comes in several colours. In addition, they make a good seating area surrounding an alfresco area or backyard whilst creating a raised garden bed or whilst being interlocked from a strong wall with a minimum number of pieces required, as usually the thickness alone is enough. As the walls get higher, the base needs to increase in width to cope with the weight of the soil being held.
Feature walls can be done in the backyard behind a water feature, as a screen or as a fenceline. An attractive 1m high wall with piers with wood panel fencing in between the piers along the front boundary always makes a statement. Pier caps add a nice finish, check out our gallery to see a couple of examples. These boundary walls can give you the security you require once a gate is installed with a letterbox in one pillar and electronic wiring run up another for an intercom if you prefer an automated gate.
Precision Landscape Construction has done some big structures like ampitheatres, tiered seating, walls, ramps and steps. We have our own bobcat with a jib to place the 1m size blocks into place. We have our own compactors and penetrometre to test the compaction so there are no reasons it can sink. Our walls are always level, finishing at the right height with adequate backslope. We can organise the engineer details to make sure it all gets done to last a lifetime. Once finished working on the wall, we can also do the drainage, backfill and compaction as well as if you’d like us to complete the project completely and of course clean up the remaining soil and waste.
We take pride in any job we do for you. When it comes to limestone walls, we always make sure that the top course does not have any chips, that the face blocks have no major chips either which could affect the visual appeal, that all joints are filled and that we always build to engineer details with footings that are never too shallow and thoroughly compacted so your wall has the foundation to last a lifetime.
